I have installed Inkscape via homebrew, so this may not work with the website binaries, look above for the solution. Necropost, but this is the top Google search and the solution above fails. There you can comment the modification out and you should now be certain to have only your custom Python used. “# Setup PYTHONPATH to use python modules shipped with Inkscape” Look at line 26 in “inkscape” bootstrap script: So since I had a well maintained MacPython 2.7.1 (the official installation from ) installation at /Library/Frameworks/amework with lxml and numpy installed by myself in the past all I had to do was to modify the “inkscape” bootstrap shell script and reorder the PATH so that my custom MacPython would be found before my MacPorts, the system Python etc.Īlso you don’t need to delete the “python” dir that comes with Inkscape in order to block their included site-packages from loading. They also explain starting at line 15 in that file why they do it and in what order. Have a look at “/Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/bin/inkscape” which is the shell script that contains the PATH order. Inside this shellscript a PATH is exported that results in alternative package managers (MacPorts, Fink) getting searched/loaded first, then MacPython (/Library/Frameworks/amework), then the system libraries.Īlso I think since 0.48 Inkscape not only includes its own python/site-packages inside the Resources subdir but in this numpy and lxml are included by default for i386 arch (32-bit). I hope it gets user friendly in the future. If you have multiple Pythons installed keep in mind that a shell script inside the Inkscape.app bootstraps Inkscape into starting up. There should be a library support even if it's in the very basic sense. For example when I want to use a pattern the only way I found is to open the pattern file with the program, convert it to pattern only then I can use. Making tutorials and the limited Help content in vector format is never a clever idea. If this is the future of software, I really don't want Linux compatibility, even though I am a Linux supporter.ĭocumentation is hardly useful. #BETTER THAN INKSCAPE FOR MAC WINDOWS#There are many solutions for such issues in Windows based systems but the desire to make it compatible makes it impossible to implement such solutions. Toolbar icons are also not descriptive at all.Īt times, some tool options, settings and such windows open for no reason or disappear or move below the application. And you can't dock it to anywhere you like. Undocking a toolbar from main, causes an EXE process shown seperately. #BETTER THAN INKSCAPE FOR MAC SOFTWARE#The Linux compatibility concerns are putting a great amount of setbacks for many software and it is valid for Inkscape. Steve Lawson has written a nice overview of it with a few helpful links, check it out: īut the interface is not as nice. just make sure you do it in a language other than your native one, that'd be too easy )Īs for the program (this is a software review after all), it's simply excellent. #BETTER THAN INKSCAPE FOR MAC FREE#Oh, by the way, English *is* my second language, so feel free to criticize my grammar and spelling all you want. However, I've yet to find a post by dhry written in a language other than English. After all, everyone just *knows* that a program written by a John Smith is much better than a program written by some poor guy by the name of Sanjiv Sindhu (or something like that, I can't be bothered with spelling non-English names), right? RIGHT?Īpparently, Dean-Ryan also likes to make fun of people whose native language is not English when they attempt to write in English, as shown in his website: Yes, that's probably what Dean-Ryan Stone (a.k.a. Vector graphic conversion inconsistencies are a real, real pain, but using InkScape and making drawings compatible with InkScape output might help SVG become worth using over gezley: Nice effort, and I hope they keep it up, cause SVG needs all the helpful, compatible support it can get so it becomes a really useful option. So while InkScape is cool, it's just not as mature as some other free options. Imports and Exports and Edits SVG no sweat, including with an InkScape compatibility mode. I think folks should try that, because it really is pretty great for a free program. #BETTER THAN INKSCAPE FOR MAC DOWNLOAD#Serif has this Free version of DrawPlus that you can download and that works with SVG also, and even though it lacks some higher-end stuff like color separation and snap to vertexes and it does have a nag screen each time you exit, it has some really strong features and a really good interface with helpful hints, tips and features that I think will serve some folks better. This is not a bad app - and it IS free, which is great.īUT, it is a bit confusing and non-intuitive compared to some other apps. ![]()
